Call to artists in the region: Skidegate, Queen Charlotte Islands and Victoria, British Comlumbia

Ottawa, 25 February 2002 - In March 2002, the Canada Council for the Arts is organizing information sessions in British Columbia on its programs of grants to professional artists. On March 4, Council officers will be in Skidegate, Queen Charlotte Islands; on March 11 and 12, information sessions will be held in Victoria. Artists will be able to find out more about grant programs in dance, media arts, music, theatre, writing and publishing, visual arts, and interdisciplinary and performance arts.
The Canada Council officers at the sessions will also be able to provide information on presenting grant applications and on the peer assessment process.
Skidegate, Queen Charlotte Islands, Monday, March 4, 2002
Artists will be able to meet with Council officers by appointment on Monday, March 4 between 9:30 am and 5:30 pm at the Haida Gwaii Museum, 2nd Beach Road, Skidegate. Victoria, Monday, March 11 and Tuesday, March 12, 2002
An information session in English has been planned for Tuesday, March 12, 7:30 pm to 9:30 pm at the Belfry Arts Centre (Mainstage), 1291 Gladstone Avenue, Victoria. An information session in French will be held the day before, March 11, at the same address and same time. In 2000-2001, the Canada Council for the Arts awarded grants totalling $14.2 million to the arts sector in British Columbia. All Canada Council programs are accessible to Aboriginal artists or arts organizations, and artists or arts organizations from diverse cultural and regional communities in Canada. Among the 666 British Columbia artists and arts organizations that received Council grants during this period were playwright Marie Clements (Vancouver), visual artist Charles Heit (Hazelton), musician John Korsrud (Vancouver), the Vancouver Asian Film Festival Society and Ballet British Columbia.
